Star eyes move after confirming Arsenal is the ‘club of his heart’
According to quotes in Get French Football News, Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko has once again spoken out of his desire to join Arsenal after saying we’re the ‘club of his heart’.
Sissoko has never hidden his love for Arsenal and has been vocal on several occasions in the past, usually around transfer window time, telling journalist how he’d like to join us.
It looked like he could finally get his wish as the Mirror reported last month that Arsene Wenger was lining-up a £10m bid for the 26-year-old with the boss looking for midfield reinforcements following the impending departures of Arteta, Flamini and Rosicky.
The French international is expected to move this summer following Newcastle’s relegation to the Championship last season and sure enough the midfielder has once again issued a come-and-get-me-plea to Wenger.
When asked about the reported interest from Arsenal, Sissoko is quoted by Get French Football News as saying he’s flattered to be wanted by one of Europe’s biggest clubs and hoped he’d be able to make the move to the Emirates this summer.
The midfielder went on to say he’d love to follow in the footsteps of Thierry Henry, Robert Pirès, Sylvain Wiltord and his idol Patrick Vieira in playing for Arsenal as we’re the ‘club of his heart’.
It is very flattering. Arsenal is one of the best European teams. To be watched by that sort of club, that proves that you are a quality player. It is good to know. I hope that I will have the chance, soon, to play for this club or for a similar club…
It is a very big European club. I think that very few people would refuse to play for this club. Everyone knows, I often said it when I was young, Arsenal is the club of my heart, because there were quite a few French players there like Thierry Henry, Robert Pirès, Sylvain Wiltord, Patrick Vieira who was my idol…
The beautiful Arsenal. We will see. I cannot tell you if I am going to go to Arsenal. For the moment, I am focused on the French national team and the Euros. I have advisors who are dealing with all of that and I hope that things will go well with as little difficult as possible for me to find another club.
I think it’s clear Sissoko is keen to join Arsenal but the reports linking us to him came out before we signed Granit Xhaka so it remains to be seen whether Wenger is still interested in the player.
Unless somebody leaves, I don’t see us needing any more central midfielders but perhaps the boss might see Sissoko as a potential replacement for Theo Walcott or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain?
The Frenchman can play in the middle or on the right wing so he could replace either player, however, I’d be a little disappointed if we sold Theo or the Ox and signed Sissoko. He’s a solid player but hardly an upgrade.
So I hope we’re aiming a little higher than the Magpies midfielder. There’s been reports saying we’ve bid for Riyah Mahrez while Henrikh Mkhitaryan has also been strongly linked so hopefully Arsene will go all-out for one of those two before considering a move for Sissoko.
