Arsenal boss confirms quadruple injury boost but attacker ruled out
Arsene Wenger has been speaking at his press conference this morning and has given the latest team news ahead of Arsenal’s Premier League clash with Burnley this weekend.
The boss confirmed a quadruple injury boost with the news that Hector Bellerin, Kieran Gibbs, Francis Coquelin and Olivier Giroud are all in contention after recovering from knocks.
Bellerin has missed our last two games after picking up an ankle injury in training on the eve of the Preston game but the right-back returned to full training this week and should start against Burnley.
Gibbs has been on the sidelines since sustaining a knee problem during the win over West Brom on Boxing Day but he too is back in training and will be in contention to replace Nacho Monreal at left-back on Sunday.
Coquelin is set to make his return to the squad this weekend after making a swift recovery from a hamstring injury that he suffered against Bournemouth but it will be interesting to see if Wenger splits up the Ramsey/Xhaka partnership.
In a quadruple boost, the boss also confirmed that Giroud resumed training on Wednesday after being forced off with a minor ankle injury during our 4-0 win at Swansea last weekend.
However, it wasn’t all positive news as Wenger revealed that Theo Walcott is still unavailable as he continues to work his way back to full fitness having missed our last five matches with a calf injury.
The attacker was snapped taking part in training yesterday, but it seems Walcott needs more time to build on his fitness before he’ll be back in contention so he could return for the FA Cup clash at Southampton next weekend.
Here is what Wenger told reporters today:
