According to a report by Bild via Football London, Arsenal have offered Alexis Sanchez a staggering £17m-per-season deal amid strong interest from Bayern Munich.

As we all know, Alexis is about to enter the final year of his Arsenal contract and we’ve so far been unable to agree terms over an extension despite holding lengthy talks with his representatives.

After missing out on Champions League qualification, Sanchez is being tipped to push for a move this summer with London Football citing a report from Chilean outlet El Mercurio which claimed the attackers agent was in Germany earlier this week negotiating with Bayern.

A supposed £50m deal to take him to the Allianz Arena was in the pipeline, however, it looks like Arsenal have made one last attempt to persuade Sanchez to stay.

Bild are reporting today that we’ve offered the 28-year-old a whopping contract worth around £17m [€20m] per season – which works out at just shy of £330,000-a-week and smashes our club record for wages.

The German newspaper suggests that Bayern’s offer is substantially less and they aren’t prepared to match the wages being put forward by Arsenal, so it leaves Alexis in a tough spot.

Does he effectively take a pay cut to join Bayern and compete for major trophies or does he stay at Arsenal for the money and settle for probably battling for the top four again next season?

The Chilean international has always maintained he’s happy in London and his latest comments suggest he’s willing to remain at Arsenal and try to win the league.

Sanchez is quoted as saying by Football London:

“When I arrived here, I said, ‘I want to win many things with Arsenal, the Premier League, the Champions League and the FA Cup,” he said.

“To this day that’s what I still want to do – win the Premier League and the Champions League.”

“It’s a big club with fans who give such amazing support week in, week out. I would love to give them a trophy and make them happy.”

Personally I think Sanchez would ideally like to stay at Arsenal but I don’t think it’s all about the money and his frustrations are aimed at our inability to compete on the pitch.

As much as £330,000-a-week is tempting, I think Alexis will want to know our plans in the transfer market and of course who the manager will be before he signs any new contract.

He’s always backed Wenger so maybe if Arsene stays and we sign a couple of top class players, Sanchez might be convinced to sign this reported mega contract extension that’s on the table.

I’m not holding my breath though….
