Arsenal to launch swoop for £26m winger, player keen on move
According to reports in France via the Metro, Arsenal are ready to swoop for Monaco’s £26m-rated winger Thomas Lemar with the player believed to be keen on moving to the Emirates.
All the talk today has been around our reported move for Monaco striker Kylian Mbappe with the Telegraph reporting that we saw a club record £87m bid rejected for the French sensation.
However, it appears Arsene Wenger is also eyeing one of Mbappe’s team mates as the Metro are citing a report from L’Equipe that claims Arsenal are lining-up a move for Thomas Lemar.
The report indicates that Lemar is interested in coming to north London despite our lack of Champions League football because of Wenger’s record of nurturing several young French players in the past.
The French outlet goes on to claim that Monaco are willing to do business at £26m – which if true we should be biting their hands off as it would be an absolute bargain in today’s climate.
Lemar was excellent for Monaco last season as he scored 14 goals and provided 17 assists in all competitions to help them clinch their first Ligue 1 title since 2000, so he’d certainly add some creativity to the squad.
The French international predominantly plays on the left flank so he could be viewed as a potential replacement for Alexis Sanchez, should we be forced to cash-in on the attacker if he fails to sign a new contract.

Obviously Lemar isn’t in Sanchez’s league just yet but let’s be honest, we’re going to find it difficult to replace the Chilean superstar if he does leave and Lemar would be an excellent signing at £26m.
However, understandably, we aren’t the only team showing an interest as the Metro say that Tottenham and Juventus are also eyeing the winger so we better hope Wenger is able to persuade him to choose Arsenal if he does leave Monaco.
