According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal have told Alexis Sanchez he can forget about making a £45m move to either Chelsea or Manchester City this summer as the club look to play hardball with the contract rebel.

Alexis is about to enter the final year of his current contract and so far we’ve been unable to agree terms over an extension despite speculation suggesting we’ve put an improved deal on the table worth in excess of £275,000-a-week.

Our Chilean superstar isn’t just concerned about the financial side of things as he wants to be competing for major honours so it’s understandable he’s reluctant to commit to Arsenal considering we finished outside the top four and were embarrassed in the Champions League last season.

Sanchez has always maintained he’s happy in England so it’s no wonder there have been rumours his agent is talking with some of our league rivals about a controversial move this summer.

However, the Daily Mail are one of several papers who are reporting today that Arsenal have made it clear to the 28-year-old that we will refuse to do business with another English club.

The newspaper says Chelsea and Man City are both prepared to pay at least £45m for Sanchez this summer but Arsenal are standing firm and are willing to force Alexis to see out the final year of his deal.

It means that if Sanchez refuses to sign a new deal at the Emirates, then he’ll either have to seal a move abroad to the likes of Juventus or Bayern Munich or run down his contract with Arsenal and leave for nothing next summer.

It’s another ridiculous situation Arsenal have put themselves in and despite all these ‘leaked’ reports in the press, I personally don’t see how the board can allow our most valuable asset to see out the final year of his deal and lose him for nothing.

The fact is, if Sanchez is so desperate to join City or Chelsea then he’ll just join them in 12 months time and we’ll get sod all for him, which will feel a whole lot worse than accepting £45m this summer.

Let’s just pray that if Alexis doesn’t sign a new deal, he’s willing to go to Bayern or Juve because it will be a disaster if he ends up at one of our rivals, whether that be this summer or in 12 months time.
