Arsenal hold talks with president in London over deal to sign £60m hitman

By on June 14, 2017

According to a report in The Sun, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas and general manager Gerard Houllier flew in to London this week to hold talks with Arsenal over a £60m deal for Alexandre Lacazette.

Arsene Wenger is desperately trying to sign a new top class striker as he looks to build a title-winning squad for next season and Lacazette has emerged as our most realistic target.

It was widely reported that Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis were in the south of France last week with The Sun claiming the pair had met Aulas at his villa to hold formal talks about the 26-year-old.

That meeting must have been productive as The Sun is now citing French-based journalist Matt Spiro as saying today that Aulas and Houllier flew in to London this week to hold further negotiations with Arsenal officials.

The paper says Lacazette is likely to cost us £60m but the price could be reduced as the report goes on to claim that during the meeting, Lyon asked about Olivier Giroud being included in the deal.

Giroud is being tipped to leave after struggling to hold down a regular place last season and he’s going to fall even further down the pecking order if we sign another striker this summer so it could make sense for all parties if he’s used as a make-weight for Lacazette.

We’ll have to wait for more details to emerge about how the latest round of talks went but it does look like Lacazette is our most realistic target as it’s going to be virtually impossible to sign Kylian Mbappe due to the fierce competition.

Lacazette will also be a lot cheaper and considering he netted 37 goals in all competitions last season, I think it wouldn’t be a bad deal in today’s climate if we do end up paying £60m for one of Europe’s most prolific strikers.
