£26m winger delays contract talks after learning of Arsenal’s interest
According to Football London, Monaco winger Thomas Lemar has stalled talks over a new contract and is now unsure over his future after learning of interest from Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger is preparing for a definitive summer as he’s under pressure to build a squad capable of sustaining a serious title challenge and he’s facing the prospect of losing arguably his best two players in Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.
We remain hopeful of agreeing new deals with the duo but there is still a good chance at least one will leave so Wenger is on the look-out for potential replacements.
Lemar has emerged as a prime target with the Metro citing a report from L’Equipe earlier this month that claimed Arsenal were lining-up a swoop for the 21-year-old.
The French outlet went on to suggest that while Monaco are keen to tie Lemar down to a new deal they would be willing to cash-in at just £26m – which sounds like an absolute bargain in today’s market.
Football London are now quoting L’Equipe as saying in today’s edition that Lemar is aware of Arsenal’s interest and is now questioning his future at the Ligue 1 champions.
The French international still has three year left on his current contract and was being lined-up for an improved deal after playing a key role in helping Monaco win the title last season.
However, the report says Lemar is now stalling on negotiations amid Arsenal’s interest so it seems he’s tempted by the prospect of coming to north London this summer.
Let’s see how things develop but I think Lemar would be a superb addition to the squad as he’s one of the most exciting young talents in Europe right now.
He predominantly plays on the left wing and chipped in with 14 goals and 17 assists in all competitions last season so he’d certainly bring some creativity to our squad if he does join.

However, I’d still be gutted if Lemar is being lined-up as a replacement for Sanchez as it would be devastating to lose him and no matter how talented Lemar is, we’d still be weaker without our Chilean superstar.
