In-Demand 26-goal hitman considering Arsenal move to play under Wenger

By on June 21, 2017

The Independent are carrying a report from France that claims Kylian Mbappe is considering a move to Arsenal in order to work under Arsene Wenger and isn’t worried about the prospect of playing in the Europa League.

Mbappe has become the most in-demand striker in European football after enjoying a sensational campaign that saw him score 26 goals and provide 14 assists to help fire Monaco to the Ligue 1 title last season.

The 18-year-old has been hotly tipped to join Real Madrid but Arsenal appear to be doing all they can to lure him to North London with L’Equipe [via The Sun] reporting earlier this week that Wenger is ready to pay £100m plus throw in Olivier Giroud in exchange for the teen sensation.

Most rival fans have laughed off our attempts to snare Mbappe but it looks like we might have a better chance than some think as the Independent are citing a report from Le Parisien that claims the striker is seriously considering a move to the Emirates.

The French newspaper says Mbappe is keen to work with Wenger due to his long history of developing young French players and he doesn’t see playing in the Europa League as a problem next season.

An apparent source told the paper:

“Wenger, he is a great. If Mbappé were to sign for Arsenal tomorrow, it would be for him. He knows how to produce youngsters and especially former French international team forwards, Thierry Henry and Nicolas Anelka. Only playing in the Europa League is not an obstacle for him.”

However, worryingly the report quotes another ‘source’ as saying that Mbappe would only see us as a stepping stone before securing his dream move to the likes of Madrid or Barcelona.

“Kylian is currently thinking things over. Either he will go to a stepping-stone club, or directly to a great club.

“But his aim is very clear: to sign for one of the two biggest clubs in the world, they are Real Madrid or Barcelona for him, before reaching the age of 22.”

So it looks as though we do have a reasonable chance of pulling off a major coup and landing Mbappe but the striker would only hang around for a few years before pushing to join Madrid or Barca.

It’s a tough situation for us as obviously it would be amazing to sign Mbappe and have him at the club for 3/4 years but we’d have that horrible feeling we’re being used and the payer would always be thinking ahead to his ‘dream’ move.

However, I say forget all that and just enjoy it if we do sign the teenager as he’d be a sensational signing for as long as he was with us. Plus, we’d sell him for a fortune in a few years time.
