Arsenal plot audacious £40m swoop as Wenger eyes second signing

By on June 25, 2017

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are plotting a shock £40m swoop for Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial as Arsene Wenger looks to secure his second summer signing.

The boss is facing arguably the toughest summer of his 21-year reign in north London as he needs to keep hold of key players and build a squad capable of challenging for the title next season.

The boss has turned his attention to signing a new forward after wrapping up the signing of left-back Sead Kolasinac and we’ve been strongly linked with a sensational £100m+ move for Monaco teenager Kylian Mbappe in recent weeks.

However, with Real Madrid still the firm favourites to sign the French international, Wenger is making plans in-case we miss out on the 18-year-old and is appears he’s got a surprise target in mind.

The Daily Mail are reporting that Wenger has identified Martial as the man he’ll turn his attention to if we miss out on Mbappe and is preparing an audacious £40m bid for the United attacker.

Like Mbappe, Martial made his name at Monaco before moving to Old Trafford in 2015 and after an encouraging debut campaign in England the 21-year-old struggled to make an impact under Jose Mourinho last season.

Martial started just 18 Premier League games amid reports of a fall out with the so-called ‘Special One’ and his low confidence clearly affected his form during the past campaign.

With United reportedly looking to sign Ivan Perisic, Martial has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford and it looks as though Arsenal are ready to pounce.

However, obviously any potential deal is going to be difficult given Wenger and Mourinho hate each other so the Daily Mail claim Arsenal will try to conduct all negotiations at boardroom level and hope to convince the owners to cash-in on a player who’s unlikely to be a key starter next season.

Let’s see how things pan out with Mbappe first but I personally think we’ve got more chance of signing him than getting a deal agreed with Mourinho’s Man Utd for Martial.

The young Frenchman may not be a key player but he’s still a huge talent and a favourite among the fans so I personally don’t think there’s any chance we’ll be able to convince them to sell to us.
