Arsenal transfer news: World record bid made + Wenger battles for £50m star
It’s been another busy day of transfer gossip so here I’ll bring you news of Arsenal’s sensational £123m bid for Kylian Mbappe while the battle it on to sign Riyad Mahrez….
First up and the Express are carrying a report emanating from Marca that claims Arsenal have submitted a world record £123.3m bid for Monaco star Kylian Mbappe.
The 18-year-old is the most wanted player in world football after enjoying a breakthrough campaign last year that saw him score 24 goals and provide 14 assists as Monaco marched to the title.
Arsenal are one of several top clubs to be strongly linked with a move for the French international this summer and it seems Arsene Wenger has now launched a sensational bid to land the teenager.
However, Monaco are doing all they can to try and persuade Mbappe to remain at the club so there is no guarantee this supposed £123m bid will be successful.
Plus, the Marca report suggests that the youngster is expected to stay in France for one more season before joining Spanish giants Madrid next summer.
Let’s see how things go over the next few weeks as I’m sure there will be plenty more twists and turns but I have a feeling Mbappe will end up at the Bernabeu – either this summer or in 12 months time.
Next and The Sun are reporting that Arsenal face competition from Roma for the signature of Leicester City’s £50m-rated attacker Riyad Mahrez this summer.
After missing out on him last summer we’ve once again been strongly linked with a move for Mahrez after he handed in a transfer request at the King Power Stadium.
Arsene has publicly admitted he’s a huge fan of the player and hinted an offer could be submitted this summer while there were reports last month that we’ve even put forward a 4-year deal to the attacker.
However, not only do The Sun claim that Arsenal are reluctant to meet Leicester’s £50m price tag but they also say we’re facing stiff competition from Roma after they expressed their interest in signing Mahrez.
The Serie A club have seemingly identified the Algerian international as the man they want to replace Mo Salah and the newspaper says they’ve already initiated talks over a potential deal.

Leicester are far more likely to do business with a foreign club like Roma than Arsenal but the good news is the report indicates their opening offer is going to be just £30m – which is well below the Foxes asking price.
I’m a fan of Mahrez and would welcome him at the Emirates, however, I think he’s now Wenger’s back-up option if we can’t get a deal agreed for Thomas Lemar so Roma’s interest might not be too much of a concern to the boss as he seems determined to land the Frenchman from Monaco.
