According to The Sun, Arsenal have offered Alexis Sanchez a new deal worth £14.3m-per-season and hope it, together with the lure of staying in London, will be enough to persuade him to commit his future to the club.

As you’ll all know by now, Sanchez is in the final year of his contract and we’ve yet to convince him to sign an extension despite holding lengthy talks with his representatives.

The 28-year-old appeared to drop a huge hint over the weekend that he was looking to leave the Emirates after telling reporters in Chile that he had made a decision over his future and wanted to be playing in the Champions League.

Obviously we can’t offer him that for at least the next year but Sanchez did concede that the final decision rests with Arsenal and it appears we haven’t given up hope of persuading him to stay and sign a new deal.

The Sun claim we have now put forward a new contract offer worth £14.3m-per-season, which equates to £275,000-a-week, and no doubt the deal will also include various additional bonuses to take his wage even higher.

Sanchez is believed to be holding out for a lot more but the newspaper says Arsenal know how settled the attacker is in London and hope this will help persuade him to sign a new deal.

Man City have been touted as the front-runners to sign Sanchez but there are question marks over whether he wants to live in Manchester and The Sun say Arsenal chiefs believe staying in the capital will be a key factor in his decision.

It’s certainly a fascinating situation but I don’t think it’s one that’s going to be resolved any time soon. Sanchez is due to return to pre-season training on July 30th so no doubt talks will be intensified at that point but this could drag out all summer.

For me, the best chance we may have of keeping Sanchez is to offer him a new lucrative contract that includes a clause that will allow him to leave NEXT summer if we don’t qualify for the Champions League.
