Attacker wants to seal dream £35m move to Arsenal
According to a report by The Sun, Riyad Mahrez will reject a move to AS Roma and hold out for a dream £35m switch to Arsenal later in the window.
Arsene Wenger is in the market for further reinforcements after only signing Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac so far an a new attacker is a priority for the Frenchman.
Thomas Lemar is widely reported to be our prime target but Monaco are proving tough to deal with as they are reluctant to sell any more of their squad having already lost several key men this summer.
Mahrez has been touted as Wenger’s back-up option if he can’t land Lemar and it seems the Algerian international is happy to wait in the hope of securing a move to the Emirates.
The 26-year-old is looking to leave Leicester City after handing in a transfer request and Roma have been trying to secure a deal. Foxes boss Craig Shakespeare confirmed on Friday they had rejected a low bid from the Italians, who are expected to return with a higher offer.
However, The Sun claim Mahrez will spurn a move to Italy as he’s willing to hold out to secure a ‘dream’ switch to the Emirates later this summer – which the paper suggests will cost Arsenal £35m.
Mahrez was strongly linked with a move to north London last summer but opted to remain at Leicester so I’m not convinced Arsenal really is a ‘dream’ move for him, as The Sun suggests, otherwise he’d have jumped at the chance 12 months ago.

However, it seems the Algerian is now hoping to finally join Arsenal but much will depend on our pursuit of Lemar and I still feel we’ll end up getting a deal agreed for the French international.
If that turns out to be the case, then Mahrez’s only hope is that Alexis Sanchez leaves as the Chilean’s departure may push Wenger in to buying both Lemar and Mahrez.
Let’s see how things go but if we could get Mahrez for £35m and he reproduces the kind of form he showed in 2015/16 then he’d be a sensational addition to the squad.
