Arsenal still hoping to sign striker in world record deal
According to a report in the Mirror, Arsenal are still in the race to sign Kylian Mbappe and hope his relationship with Arsene Wenger will be enough to lure him to the Emirates.
Mbappe is undoubtedly the hottest property in football right now with practically every top European club vying for his signature after watching him burst on to the scene last season.
The 18-year-old scored 26 goals and provided 14 assists to help fire Monaco to the Ligue 1 title and it’s left the French club desperately trying to hang on to him this summer as the rest of their squad gets picked off.
It looked like Real Madrid had won the race for his signature as Marca claimed yesterday that the European Champions had agreed a sensational £161m deal to sign Mbappe – although this was quickly denied by Monaco.
We then saw reports that Manchester City were ready to go head-to-head with Madrid with Pep Guardiola suggesting this morning that they are still in the mix for Mbappe’s signature.
However, so far nothing has been agreed and the Mirror are citing a report from L’Equipe that claims Arsenal haven’t given up hope of luring Mbappe to north London.
The French publication says we have the finances in place to compete with Madrid and City, and Arsenal remain hopeful over a deal as Mbappe feels he has the best relationship with Wenger out of all the managers he’s met with this summer.
Widespread reports say Arsene spent several hours with the teenager and his family back in France discussing his future and a possible move to the Emirates, so it seems the boss is trying to charm Mbappe in to a switch to Arsenal.
The major issue is the lack of Champions League football on offer if the player came to north London, and it would be gutting if we do end up missing out on the best talent in football the one year we failed to make the top four!

I’m sure there are going to be plenty more twists and turns before Mbappe’s future is decided but as much as we’d all love to see him join Arsenal, I have a feeling we’ll see him end up at Madrid.
