Arsenal have agreed deal to sign 14-goal star as Wenger closes-in on 3rd signing
According to a report in the Express, Arsenal have a deal ‘done’ to sign Thomas Lemar this summer and are simply waiting for Monaco to buy a replacement before completing the transfer.
Arsene Wenger has confirmed he’s still active in the transfer market after only buying Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette so far this summer and a new attacker appears to be on the agenda.
We’ve been strongly linked with Lemar in recent weeks but the majority of media outlets claim Monaco have been playing hardball over a fee after rejecting several Arsenal offers.
However, The Sun reported last week that we were on the verge of signing Lemar in a £45m deal after reaching a breakthrough in negotiations while the paper also says the attacker has agreed personal terms ahead of his move to the Emirates.
It appears those claims are supported by Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli who has now been quoted by the Express as saying that a deal taking Lemar to Arsenal is ‘done’ and we’re just waiting for Monaco to sign a replacement.
Giulianelli made the claim during an exchange with a supporter on Twitter. The Express say the exchange went something like this:
Giulianelli: “To all the Arsenal supporters asking me about Lemar I can answer: don’t worry, he will join the Gunners.”
Fan: “Ema, one quick question, please: is Lemar to #AFC conditional upon anything else? Or 100% agreed, nothing to do with any Monaco signing?”
Giulianelli: “Done, but Monaco want to have a substitute first.”
Giulianelli has a mixed success when it comes to making bold transfer claims, but I suppose you can say the same for all journalists, so the safest thing is to take his Lemar claim with a pinch of salt for now.
But I do think it’s clear by now that Wenger is pushing hard to sign the French international this summer and I’d be surprised if we don’t get a deal agreed in the end.

Lemar would be an exciting addition to the squad as he’s one of the best attacker in France and proved that by scoring 14 goals and setting up a further 17 for his team mates during Monaco’s title-winning campaign last season.
