Arsenal in battle to sign £27m South American attacker

By on August 18, 2017

According to reports in Italy via the Express, Arsenal are ready to step-up their attempts to sign Juan Cuadrado as we struggle to agree a deal with Monaco for Thomas Lemar.

Arsene Wenger is being tipped to bring in another attacker before the transfer window closes at the end of the month and Lemar has been widely touted as our prime target.

However, Monaco are proving difficult to deal with as they are reluctant to sell any more of their title-winning team so it looks like Wenger may be ready to move on to alternative targets.

And it seems the boss will cast his eye to Italy as the Express are citing a report from Transfermarketweb that claims Arsenal are ready to step-up their interest in Cuadrado.

The Colombian international has been linked with a move to the Emirates throughout the summer with talkSPORT reporting earlier this month that we were eyeing the attacker with Juventus ready to cash-in if £27m was put on the table.

Cuadrado joined Juve in a £17m deal after impressing during a loan spell having lasted just six months at Chelsea following his move to Stamford Bridge back in 2015.

The winger made 30 appearances in Serie A last season to help Juventus win another title and Max Allegri is understood to be keen for him to stay in Turin but the club could sell if the right offer arrives.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will formalise their interest but the newspaper report says we’ll face a battle to sign Cuadrado if we do as Inter Milan and Roma are also keen to land the South American this summer.

Personally, I’d prefer to see Arsenal concentrating their efforts on doing a deal for Lemar as Cuadrado is 29 and hardly set the Premier League alight during his time with Chelsea.

Lemar or even Riyad Mahrez would be much better signings in my opinion but we’ll have to wait and see what Wenger decides to do over the coming days.
