Arsenal given hope of signing £55m attacker as Wenger eyes late swoop
According to reports in France via the Daily Star, Arsenal have been given fresh hope of signing Thomas Lemar as Arsene Wenger lines-up a late swoop for the Monaco attacker.
Wenger has been tracking Lemar all summer and it looked like we were closing-in on a deal after submitting two formal offers for the French international back in June.
However, we failed to agree a fee with Monaco and the Ligue 1 champions have been reluctant to do business in recent weeks after seeing a number of other key players leave.
Vice-president Vadim Vasilyev insisted last month that Lemar would not be following the likes of Tiemoue Bakayoko, Bernardo Silva and Benjamin Mendy through the exit door this summer.
The speculation linking Arsenal with the 21-year-old has died down in recent weeks as Wenger has been focussing his attention on offloading some of our deadwood.
However, the Daily Star are now citing a report from Le 10 Sport that claims Arsenal may be lining-up a renewed attempt to land Lemar during the closing stages of the window as Wenger looks to finally get his hands on the attacker.
And we could have more luck getting a deal agreed this time around as the French publication suggests that Monaco could cash-in on Lemar, Kylian Mbappe and Fabinho before the end of the month.
We’ll have to wait and see whether that turns out to be the case but we better be prepared to dig deep if we do want to sign Lemar as the Daily Record reported last week that Monaco value the player at around £55m.

That’s probably not unreasonable in today’s market for a young French international who provided 14 goals and 17 assists last season but no doubt Wenger will be hoping to drive that price-tag down.
Let’s see how things develop but I don’t think we’ve heard the last of these Lemar rumours and I’d love to see him come to the Emirates this summer as I think he’d be a superb addition to the squad.
