Arsenal teenager set to be involved vs Tottenham after being left out of U23 game
Arsenal teenager Eddie Nketiah could be included in the squad to face Tottenham tomorrow after being left out of the Under-23’s game tonight.
The youngsters are in action against Porto in the first ever Premier League International Cup fixture this evening and Nketiah was expected to be involved.
However, the 18-year-old has been left out of Steve Gatting’s squad for the game and it looks like he’s being saved for first team action against Spurs tomorrow.
Olivier Giroud has been ruled out of the North London Derby after picking up a thigh injury while away with the French national team last week.
Our options in attack could be further limited as it appears Theo Walcott didn’t take part in training today so it looks like he may have picked up a late knock.
Nketiah was called-up to train with the rest of the first team at London Colney this afternoon so it seems Arsene Wenger may hand him a place on the bench against Tottenham with Walcott set to join Giroud on the sidelines.
I’m sure you’ll all remember Nketiah as he became an instant hero having come off the bench to score a late double on his first team debut to secure a 2-1 comeback win over Norwich in the League Cup last month.
He’s highly rated and looks to have a huge future ahead of him but it would be a big ask for him to make an impact in the heat of a NLD tomorrow.
Let’s see if he even makes the squad but I think Wenger will only use the teenager as a last resort and with Danny Welbeck fit again we should have plenty of other options up front.
But what a story it would be if Eddie came off the bench to score the winner against Spurs on his Premier League debut!
