Arsene Wenger delivers major injury blow ahead of crucial Man Utd showdown
Arsenal have been dealt a major injury blow as Alexandre Lacazette is expected to miss Saturday’s crucial showdown against Manchester United.
Lacazette started against Huddersfield Town last night and opened the scoring with a cool finish in just the third minute after being sent clear by Aaron Ramsey.
The French international was a constant threat and almost made it 2-0 with a superb chip from the touchline as we went in search of the all-important second goal.
However, Lacazette didn’t appear for the second half after being replaced by Olivier Giroud at the break and Wenger confirmed after the game that he sustained a groin problem during the opening 45 minutes.
The 26-year-old did appear to be holding the top of his thigh towards the end of the half but it didn’t look that serious, however, the boss has already ruled him out of Saturday’s visit of United to the Emirates.
Wenger told Arsenal.com:
Lacazette has a groin problem and will certainly be out for Saturday’s game.
The news is a huge blow as Lacazette has settled well since joining the club from Lyon in the summer with last nights strike his 7th goal in just 12 Premier League starts.
No doubt the striker will be assessed at London Colney today and fingers crossed we get some good news but it looks certain he won’t be available this weekend meaning Wenger has a decision to make up front.
Giroud came off the bench to score twice last night during the 5-0 win so I fear Arsene will just hand him a start against United but I’d much prefer we go with Danny Welbeck.
He’s more similar to Lacazette in terms of playing style [not finishing ability!] so it will have less of an impact on our system and Giroud can still be used as an impact substitute.
