Mesut Ozil has signed new £350k-a-week contract with Arsenal [Telegraph]
The Telegraph are one of several outlets claiming that Mesut Ozil has signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract worth £350k-a-week with Arsenal.
Ozil’s future has been the subject of much debate over the past few months as his contract was due to expire in June and there have been a number of clubs chasing his signature.
At one point it looked like the German international was going to follow Alexis Sanchez out the exit door as we struggled to agree terms with the playmakers representatives.
However, there have been more positive signals coming out in recent weeks and Arsene Wenger sounded far more optimistic when quizzed about Ozil’s future last week.
The Telegraph are now one of several media outlets who’re reporting that Ozil has now signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract worth around £350,000-a-week with the club.
There has been no formal announcement from Arsenal but that’s not a surprise given we’ve only just confirmed the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang so the club will not want to overshadow that with news of Ozil’s new deal.
However, the newspaper says there should be an announcement over the coming days and it will be a huge boost once it’s confirmed that Ozil is staying at the Emirates.
The 28-year-old loves London and is settled in the area but the Telegraph suggest that the signings of Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan also played an important part in persuading Ozil to stay at Arsenal.
So after a disappointing night in Wales, it’s been a positive day to be an Arsenal fan. Let’s hope we can now get Wilshere tied down to a new deal….
