Another Mislintat gem? £35m star confirms Arsenal are trying to sign him

By on May 29, 2018

According to Football London, Caglar Soyuncu has confirmed Arsenal are keen to sign him this summer and the £35m-rated Freiburg centre-back will make a decision over his future early next month.

New head coach Unai Emery is planning to overhaul his defence as the side he inherited from Arsene Wenger shipped an embarrassing 51 Premier League goals last season.

Per Mertesacker has retired, Laurent Koscielny is out for six months with an Achilles injury and Shkodran Mustafi’s future is in doubt after a disappointing two seasons at the club so we’re in the market for two new central defenders.

Borussia Dortmund’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos is being strongly linked with a move but it seems Arsenal are hoping to sign a younger centre-back to compliment the 29-year-old Greek international.

Sven Mislintat has been tasked with heading-up our recruitment drive this summer and Football London claim the Arsenal head of recruitment is a huge admirer of Soyuncu.

The 21-year-old has now confirmed Arsenal’s interest after describing us as one of the ‘most important clubs in England’ but the defender will make a decision over his future after Turkey’s friendly with Russia on June 5.

Soyuncu is quoted by Football London as saying:

“Arsenal are one of the most important clubs in England. I know they’re interested in me, but there’s nothing finalized yet about my transfer.

“After the national team camp we’ll have talks.”

The Turkish international has been in excellent form since joining Freiburg two years ago and he’s now a regular with his country at international level so he looks to have a huge future ahead of him.

However, we aren’t the only club in the running as Football London claim that Manchester United, Manchester City and Atletico Madrid have also shown an interest and the players agent has confirmed talks are on-going with a number of clubs.

The good news is Mustafa Dogru says Soyuncu wants to play in England but we’ll face some competition. He told Football London:

“The main objective of the player is to play in the Premier League, that I can tell you at the moment,”

“We are negotiating with some clubs. They (Freiburg) are open to negotiations.”

The report says Freiburg want around £35m for Soyuncu and obviously the Manchester clubs have the financial muscle to blow us out the water so it’s going to be interest to see where Soyuncu ends up.
