Arsenal chiefs eyeing audacious swoop on Euro giants for ‘dream’ signing
According to a report by TeamTalk, Arsenal chiefs are eyeing a sensational swoop for Ousmane Dembele as they consider the Barcelona attacker to be a ‘dream’ addition to the squad.
Unai Emery has splashed around £70m on five new signings since replacing Arsene Wenger as manager with Bernd Leno, Sokratis, Stephan Lichtsteiner, Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira all arriving in recent weeks.
The boss is now hoping to raise extra funds by offloading some of his fringe players with the likes of Danny Welbeck, Lucas Perez, Joel Campbell and Chuba Akpom among those who could leave this summer.
Emery is planning to use the proceeds from any sales to target a pacey wide attacker and TeamTalk are citing Football London journalist Charlie Watts as saying that Dembele is seen as the ‘dream’ signing.
The French international emerged as one of the hottest talents in Europe during his time with Borussia Dortmund before making a big-money move to Barcelona that could cost up to £135m.
However, the 21-year-old is being linked with a move already after struggling for form and fitness last season with a serious hamstring injury restricting him to just 12 La Liga starts.
Arsenal have been linked with a move for the Frenchman in recent weeks but Watts says a permanent deal will be almost impossible so unless Barca are willing to let Dembele leave on loan, it’s unlikely we’ll see him coming to north London.
Watts is quoted as saying by TeamTalk:
“Demebele on his own would cost far more than whatever money comes in from those potential sales,”
“Mislintat would love Dembele, that would be his dream signing and he would slot in perfectly as well.
“But unless Barca decide to send him out on loan, it’s not going to happen.”
There has been plenty of speculation suggesting Barca are prepared to let Dembele leave this summer but it remains to be seen whether that would be on a short-term of permanent basis. There virtually no chance we could afford to buy him so as Watts says, our only hope is to try and persuade the Catalans to loan him.

Dembele is capable of playing anywhere in attack but he’s best from out wide so he’d be a superb addition to the squad – let’s pray we manage to pull off a miracle during the closing weeks of the window.
