Arsene Wenger: Luis Suarez “Situation Is On Standby”
Following on from this mornings bombshell interview from Liverpool’s Luis Suarez, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has said the situation regarding the striker is on ‘standby’.
Suarez confirmed his desire to leave Liverpool in a sensational interview with the Guardian today where he hit out at the Merseysiders for not allowing him to join Arsenal, despite having both a verbal and written agreement that he could leave for a club in the Champions League this summer.
Liverpool have so far rejected two bids from us, the latest a £40,000,001 offer that was supposed to trigger a release clause in the players contract, but it appears Liverpool are refusing to do business despite Suarez’s claims he should be allowed to leave Anfield.
Wenger was asked for the latest and he told Al Jazeera this morning that the situation is on standby and he doesn’t know what Liverpool will decide to do.
“At the moment the situation is on standby, I really don’t know [what the latest is regarding Suarez], that’s for sure, I really don’t know what will be decided by Liverpool.”
Like Suarez, Wenger has put the ball firmly in Liverpool’s court. As has been said over the past week, Arsenal are refusing to up their offer and are willing to let Suarez force his way out. And his interview today should go a long way to ensuring that happens.
Over to you Liverpool……
