Arsenal Make Enquiry For Juventus Striker

By on August 29, 2013

Arsenal have contacted Juventus about the availability of striker Fabio Quagliarella, according journalist James Olly.

A striker is almost certainly Arsene Wenger’s top priority as we enter the final four days of the transfer window and having been linked with the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Wayne Rooney, Luis Suarez and Karim Benzema this summer, it seems we’ve turned to the bargain basement.

Evening Standard journalist James Olly has claimed today on his official Twitter account that we’ve enquired about Juve frontman Quagliarella – who has been linked with West Ham and Norwich this summer.

Is that the level we’ve sunk to? Competing with the likes of West Ham and Norwich for ageing strikers? If this is accurate, it’s truly embarrassing. Thankfully Olly says no bid has been made yet, and fingers cross we don’t table one.

Quagliarella is bang average at best. He has never scored more than 13 league goals in a season. I mean he got 9 in 27 for the Serie A champions last season. Hardly pulling up trees is it?

He’ll turn 31 in January so is at the end of his career, and nobody will convince me Quagliarella is the “top, top, top quality” player Wenger says he’s looking for. He’s a last minute desperation move because we’ve failed to land any of our other targets.

Time is quickly running out for Arsenal to save this summer but signing a player like Quagliarella just isn’t going to cut it. We’d be better off giving Bendtner another chance.
