RATINGS: Arsenal Player Ratings From The 3-1 Win Over Sunderland
We secured a hard fought 3-1 win away at Sunderland today. Here are my ratings:
Szczesny 6/10
Very little to do in terms of shot stopping, but he looked a little uncomfortable on crosses. Decent stop to deny Altidore from long range in the first half and could do nothing to stop the penalty.
Jenkinson 6.5/10
Got forward a lot during first half but crossing was generally poor. Made up for it with a lovely cut-back to set up Ramsey for the important second goal.
Sagna 7/10
On the whole it was another excellent display in the middle of defence. Only error was being out-muscled by Altidore which should have lead to an equaliser when the score was 2-1, but the ref did us a favour by pulling up for the foul instead of allowing the goal.
Koscielny 5.5/10
His worst performance for quiet some time. Another needless penalty given away. No need to lunge in the way he did. Positionally poor as well at times. He’s given away two penalties and been sent off once in four Premier League games. Not good enough.
Gibbs 6.5/10
Like Jenkinson, he got forward to support the attacks and was pretty comfortable in defence.
Ramsey 8.5/10
Another MOTM performance by Rambo. Took both his goals well and was the best player on the pitch. He made the most tackles (7), had the most touches (111), made the most passes (88 – 92% completion rate), and scored two goals. Nuff said.
Flamini 7/10
Tenacious performance from the Frenchman on his first start since returning to the club. Slotted seamlessly into our midfield.
Wilshere 7.5/10
Played on the left wing but was drifting inside linking-up beautifully with Ozil. His influence faded in the second half but he was still a key outlet.
Ozil 8/10
This is what £42.5m gets you. World class. Stunning touch and assist for opener. He was denied at least another two assist after putting Walcott through countless times in the first half. In total, 70 passes (90% accuracy), 2 shots, 3 dribbles, 3 chances created, 1 assist makes for a great debut. Tired in the second half and was subbed but that was to be expected, especially as he was sick yesterday.
Walcott 5/10
Another poor game from Theo. He missed several chances in the first half to put the game to bed and was virtually anonymous in the second period. But you get the feeling once he gets his first goal, the flood gates will open. He’ll get plenty of chances with Ozil in the team.
Giroud 7/10
Superb first-time finish for opener. Clever flick set Walcott up but he was denied again by the keeper. Giroud missed a great late chance to add a fourth but worryingly he left the field receiving treatment to his right knee. Pray to god he’s OK.
Subs:
Vermaelen, Monreal and Akpom all came on too late to be marked.
So another vital win under out belt and that’s seven consecutive away wins. Very impressive but the injuries are mounting up once again and the squad is being stretched to breaking point. I really hope Arsene’s lack of action in the summer won’t come back to haunt us, as this squad has the potential to be special.
