Arsenal Back In Talks For Morata + Reports Of €30m Attacker Bid
Arsenal have resumed talks with Real Madrid about the loan signing of young striker Alvaro Morata and our bid for Julian Draxler was for just €30m (£25m), according to reports today.
Morata was a player that was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates at the start of January but speculation quietened down in recent days after Carlo Ancelotti insisted the youngster wouldn’t be leaving this month.
However, the Daily Mail are reporting today that we are back in talks with Madrid and haven’t given up hope of persuading them to let the 21-year-old striker leave on a short-term deal until the end of the season.
Morata is barely playing at the Bernabeu with the likes of Benzema, Ronaldo and Jesse all ahead of him in the pecking order, so a loan would certainly do him some good as he should get plenty of playing time with us. Hopefully we can persuade Real to let him go as he could be a useful addition.
While talk of Morata has died down in recent days, the same can not be said of Julian Draxler. The German attacking midfielder has been filling the back pages this week with various reports suggesting we’re closing in on his signature.
Last night news broke from Germany that we had agreed a fee with Schalke but the Mirror claim those reports are a little premature.
While the paper confirms we are in advanced talks and are keen on bringing the 20-year-old to north London this month, they claim our initial offer was just €30m (£25m) plus add ons which falls short of Schalke’s valuation.
Draxler has a €45m (£37m) buy-out clause in his contract, which can only be activated in the summer, and it seems the Germans are demanding the full value of that release fee to let Draxler go this month.
However, the Mirror do suggest that a compromise is likely to be reached as Arsene Wenger is keen to complete a deal this month to avoid having to face stiffer competition in the summer.
Mandzukic tipped for Arsenal move
The newspaper also reported earlier today that Draxler himself is ‘desperate’ for the deal to happen before the window closes this month, which further suggests a move is likely to be struck, so fingers crossed we can get this one finalised before the window closes in six days time.
