Agent: ‘Arsenal Have Enquired For Montolivo’
Arsenal have enquired about the availability of AC Milan midfielder Riccardo Montolivo, according to the players agent.
The 29-year-old has been a rare shining light in what’s been a disappointing season for Milan with the club currently languishing in 10th place in the Serie A table.
It appears Arsene Wenger is one of a number of managers who is hoping to take advantage of the clubs demise after the central midfielders agent, Giovanni Branchini, claimed that we’d made contact with Milan to enquire about Montolivo’s availability.
However, while Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are also understood to be keen, Branchini insists his client is happy at the San Siro and isn’t planning on leaving any time soon.
Branchini was quoted as saying by Football Italia:
“There have been a few polite enquiries,”
“From Atletico Madrid, Dortmund and Arsenal to name a few. All of them wanted to know whether Montolivo was available.
“At the moment though, I really do think it would be very difficult to see the player leaving Milan.
“Milan have had a troubled season and I think I can say that he has been one of the highlights.
“He has become an important part of the Rossonero starting line-up this season. He is very happy with the club he is at, and the club and the fans are very happy with him.
“He has a contract until June 2016 so it is not a priority to talk about a renewal just yet. It’s something we will maybe discuss next year.”
I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Arsene was in the market for another central midfielder this summer. Mikel Arteta is now starting to show signs of his age so we’re going to need to find a replacement for him, while Abou Diaby is almost certain to leave the club on a free when his contract expires this summer.
Jack Wilshere has once again seen his season hampered by injuries as well, so I think we’ll see the boss bring in a midfield general this summer and it appears he’s interested in Montolivo.
The Italian is an excellent all-round player and as well as being a regular for AC Milan, he’s also got almost 60 caps for the Italian national team under his belt, so he’s got vast experience to offer.
However, I’d personally prefer to see us bring in someone a bit young. Lars Bender would be a great option, but I think it might take silly money to persuade Bayer Leverkusen to sell.
What midfielder would you like to see Arsenal sign this summer?
