TEAM NEWS: Wenger Confirms Injury Doubt, Key Duo Close To Return
Arsene Wenger has been speaking at his pre-match press conference this morning ahead of our clash with West Brom on Sunday and he’s given us the latest team news.
Reports in this mornings newspapers claimed that Bacary Sagna was rated at just 50:50 after picking up a knee injury in training and the boss has confirmed the Frenchman is a doubt for the game.
It would be a big blow if Sagna is ruled out as he’s been one of our most reliable players this season, but Carl Jenkinson is on stand-by if the experienced defender misses out.
In other news, Arsene said none of our other injured players will be back in contention this weekend. Kieran Gibbs is close after returning to fitness training following a hamstring injury while Jack Wilshere is also close to being available after almost two months out with a fractured foot.
Neither will feature against West Brom on Sunday but they could be in contention to face Norwich on the final day of the season, or failing that the FA Cup final against Hull the following week.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is facing a fight to be fit to play at Wembley as he continues to nurse a niggling groin injury, while Theo Walcott is of course out for the foreseeable future.
A win this weekend would secure a top four finish and ensure we have a relaxed final game against Norwich ahead of the FA Cup final.
