Wenger Holds Fabregas Talks As Arsenal Look To Trigger €29m Clause

By on May 2, 2014

Arsene Wenger has already spoken with Cesc Fabregas on the phone about a potential return to Arsenal as the club explore the possibility of trigger a €29m buy-back clause in the midfielders contract this summer, according to reports today.

Fabregas has endured a difficult season at the Nou Camp this campaign and has been jeered by his own fans at times with the 26-year-old being singled out as a scapegoat for the Catalans poor season.

He’s cut a frustrated figure at times in recent months and although he’s made over 40 starts for the club, he’s often played out of position and has been substituted 27 times this season. With just two years left on his contract, it seems Cesc is at a crossroads in his career and a sensational move back to Arsenal could now be a real possibility.

Barcelona are set to overhaul their squad after a poor season and Spanish journalist Guillem Balague claimed on Twitter that Barca are now ready to listen to offers for the midfielder. In addition, Goal are reporting that we have already ‘explored’ the possibility of triggering a €29m buy-back clause that we inserted into his contract when we sold him three years ago, and Cesc is believed to be open to the idea of leaving his boyhood club for the second time.

Arsene hinted last year that he had been told Cesc was prepared to ‘give it another year’ at Barcelona when rumours emerged last summer that he could be sold, and things have gotten worse for him over the past 12 months.

Goal also claim that Arsene has now spoken to Fabregas several times on the phone about a potential move back to North London so a deal could really be on the cards.

Ivan Gazidis worked hard to get a water-tight clause inserted into his deal so that we not only had the option to buy him back at a fixed price should they want to sell, but Barca also have to inform us if another clubs makes a bid and give us first refusal.

The report does suggest that Manchester United will make another attempt to lure him to Old Trafford after embarrassing themselves last summer with two failed attempts. However, Fabregas has previously said that he could only ever see himself playing for Arsenal if he left Barca again, so I can only see him coming back to us if he does move this summer.

It would be a sensational move if it does come off and I’d be delighted to see it happen. Cesc is one of the most creative players in Europe and we’d certainly be a better team with him in the side. Debates have already started on Twitter about how he could potentially fit in, but trust me, Arsene will find a way to get him in the side!

Well have to see how this develops but I have a funny feeling we could see the return of Cesc Fabregas to Arsenal this summer.
