Team News: Wenger Gives Update On Ozil, Arteta, Podolski + BFG
Arsene Wenger has been speaking at his pre-match press conference this morning ahead of Saturday nights clash with Everton at Goodison Park.
Among other things, the boss has given a team news update with the latest on Mikel Arteta, Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski.
As I reported earlier, Arteta has been ruled out of the trip to face his former side after spraining his ankle following a clash with Demba Ba against Besiktas on Tuesday night.
While Arsene confirmed his skipper wont be available, he didn’t give any indication of how long the Spaniard will be out, but reports suggest he won’t play again until after next months international break.
Arsene also said he will make a late check on our German World Cup winning trio to see if they will be available this weekend, but widespread reports suggest that Ozil, Mertesacker and Podolski will all be in the squad to face the Toffees.
Obviously it’s a blow to lose Arteta as it gives us even fewer options in an already weak area of the team, but it looks like Mathieu Flamini is going to have to step up over the next few games and hopefully we’ll have a new defensive midfielder on board by the time Arteta is available again.
The return of the Germans is a big boost and I’d expect Ozil and Mertesacker to start – although Arsene has been saying how it will be a big test for Chambers to face Lukaku so perhaps he’s going to stick with the youngster?
Here’s what the boss has been saying on the team news this morning:
