Wenger Offers Injury Update On Szczesny + Wilshere
Arsene Wenger has offered an injury update on goalkeeper Wojceich Szczesny and midfielder Jack Wilshere after the duo were forced off during our 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Saturday night.
Wilshere was having a decent game until he received lengthy treatment after taking a nasty kick to his ankle early in the second half.
He tried to continue but was eventually forced off with Santi Cazorla coming on to replace him in the 55th minute.
Speaking to Arsenal.com after the game, Arsene revealed that he isn’t sure how bad the injury is just yet but from the replays I’ve seen, it looks like Jack turned his ankle pretty badly so I wouldn’t be surprised if he was out for a couple of weeks.
Szczesny was also forced off just minutes later after picking up a rib injury during the calamitous opening goal yesterday.
The Pole collided with team-mate Kieran Gibbs as he attempted to punch clear Ashley Young’s cross just before Antonio Valencia’s shot took a wicked deflection into the net.
Thankfully, Arsene says the injury doesn’t look bad so hopefully Szczesny will be passed fit to face Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night.
Here’s what the boss told Arsenal.com:
Wojciech is not bad. Jack I don’t know how bad it is because he tried to stay on and couldn’t. It could be an ankle problem, I don’t know how bad it is.
If Wilshere is ruled out then Aaron Ramsey is really going to have to step up his game as he was disappointing once again yesterday.
