Agent Confirms ‘Arsenal Are Interested’ In Midfielder
The agent of Cristian Ledesma claims that Arsenal are interested in signing the Lazio midfielder and are weighing-up making an offer ahead of the January window.
Arsene Wenger is under pressure to bring in another central midfielder this winter with Jack Wilshere out for three months after undergoing surgery on an ankle ligament injury, while our options in the middle of the park have been further depleted with Mikel Arteta struggling with a niggling calf problem.
The newspapers have linked us with a number of players in recent weeks but the agent of Christian Ledesma has now been quoted as saying that we’ve sent scouts to watch the ageing midfielder and are contemplating putting forward an offer this January.
Vincenzo D’Ippolito said:
‘It is true, Arsenal are interested in Cristian,’
‘There have been scouts [watching], we’ll see if there will be an opportunity to examine an offer.’ Source
I’m all for us signing another midfielder in January but I really fail to see the benefit of signing Ledesma – a 32-year-old who’s struggling to get a game for Lazio.
I’m sure I won’t be the only one thinking it if we do sign him, but Ledesma would be this years Kim Kallstrom. A cheap, short-term solution who will offer very little to the team.
Hopefully we don’t pursue this deal and the boss turns his attention to a young, mobile, defensive midfielder who can boss the middle of the park for years to come.
We have the money to spend, we clearly need a holding midfielder, so let’s stop the penny-pinching Arsene and spend whats required to sign the player we need.
