RATINGS: Cazorla & Giroud Superb As Arsenal Thrash Newcastle

By on December 13, 2014

Arsenal were back to their best tonight as we beat Newcastle 4-1 at the Emirates to close in on the top four. Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud both got two each in what was a hugely encouraging performance considering how many key players were missing.

These are my player ratings:

Szczesny – 7/10 – Made a great double save to keep it at 1-0. Handling was sound and could do little for their goal.

Bellerin – 7.5/10 – Great anticipation to regain possession in the build-up to the opening goal and set up Giroud’s second.

Debuchy – 7/10 – Did very well deputising at centre-back. Hardly put a foot wrong.

Mertesacker – 7/10 – Kept Cisse quiet although he did switch off a little for their goal.

Gibbs – 7.5/10 – Very good display from Gibbsy. Keen to get forward and help out the attack.

Flamini – 7/10 – Another solid outing from the Frenchman. He looks a much better player now he’s holding his position in front of the defence and keeping things simple.

Cazorla – 9/10 – Superb. His finish for the first goal was exquisite and had the confidence to chip home the penalty.

The Ox – 8/10 – Really like the look of him in the center of the park. Confident on the ball, ran at the Newcastle players and was always dangerous.

Alexis – 8/10 – Lovely cross for the opener and set up Santi for the second. Worked his nuts off too. Top player.

Welbeck – 7/10 – Unlucky to have a goal ruled out but was a handful for the Magpies. Used his pace to win the penalty.

Giroud – 9/10 – Superb all-round display. Wonderful header to open the scoring and showed a deft touch for his second, but his hold-up play was excellent as well.

Subs: Podolski (6), Coquelin (N/A), Maitland-Niles (N/A)
