Tweet: Walcott Speaks Out On Wenger ‘Bust-Up’ & Contract Talks
Arsenal attacker Theo Walcott has taken to Twitter to dismiss rumours suggesting he had a bust-up with Arsene Wenger and claims contract talks haven’t even begun.
Speculation has been rife in the newspapers in recent weeks with widespread reports suggesting Theo is stalling on a new deal.
Some claim he’s demanding a huge increase in his wages while others believe he wants assurances over his first team place before committing his future to the club.
There were even reports earlier this week that claimed Theo had a bust-up with Wenger at the clubs training ground.
However, Walcott has now taken to Twitter this morning to dismiss those suggestions as ‘nonsense’ and claims that talks over a new deal haven’t even begun yet.
He tweeted:
I don’t normally comment on false stories about myself but reports about contract demands & bust-ups with the boss are complete nonsense…
There have been no contract talks as yet and my current focus is not on contracts but on doing my best for Arsenal FC.
Rumours of training ground ‘bust-ups’ are always exaggerated so it’s no surprise that Theo has played down those reports.
However, I’d personally find it extremely surprising if preliminary talks hadn’t taken place over a new deal yet, so if what Theo says is true, it’s worrying and another sign that he could be sold this summer.
It’s crazy to allow him to get down to his final year again and we should have a good idea of whether an extension will be signed by now.
Lets not forget, it was a painful experience last time and took almost a year of negotiations before Theo signed his last extension in 2013, so surely if we were planning on keeping him we’d have already started talks?
With Wenger axing him from the first team and now these revelations about his contract, I just have a feeling we might see Walcott leave this summer, which would be a real shame in my eyes.
