Arsenal Handed Major Boost In Pursuit Of 31-Goal Striker
Arsenal have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Alexandre Lacazette after he effectively ruled out joining Liverpool this summer.
Lacazette has just enjoyed another excellent season with Lyon that saw him score 31 goals in just 40 appearances to cement himself as one of Europe’s most prolific strikers.
His impressive form had led to speculation over a potential move to the Premier League with Arsenal reportedly ready to test Lyon’s resolve with a £22m bid, while Liverpool are also understood to be keen on securing his signature this summer.
However, we’ve now been handed a major boost as Lacazette has effectively ruled out moving to Anfield after confirming he’ll only leave Lyon for a club who can offer Champions League football.
Lacazette told reporters:
“I have not made my decision. I will go on holiday, leave my agent to discuss things, for him to look after all that,”
“Everything depends on the destination. It would have to be for a Champions League club. Barcelona and Real Madrid – you don’t reject them.
“I could stay at Lyon next season and have a terrible season, I could leave and have an incredible season.
“But today, between leaving and staying, it is not 50-50 – it is zero. I am not thinking about it. I am going to enjoy the national team and I will think about it after.”
As the player says, he’s yet to make a decision over his future, but if the 23-year-old decides he wants to come to England, then it looks like we’re now in pole position.
Arsene Wenger is playing it pretty cool with regards to possible transfers this summer but like many supporters, I think we need to bring in a top class striker to make us genuine title challengers and Lacazette would be an excellent addition.
I think Lyon will want in excess of £30m for his signature but we have that sort of money available to spend and I think it would be a worthy investment. Sign Lacazette, Cech and Schneiderlin, and our squad will be complete. Do it Arsene!
