Arsenal Eyeing Move For Italian Star, Agent Confirms PL Interest
Arsenal are eyeing a move for Italian international midfielder Claudio Marchisio as his contract talks with Juventus continue to stall.
Marchisio was strongly linked with a move to the Emirates last summer but he opted to stay in Turin and help Juve to a domestic double while they narrowly missed out on the treble after losing to Barcelona in the Champions League final.
However, the midfielders future is in doubt as his deal is set to enter it’s final year next month and he’s yet to agree terms over a new contract.
The 29-year-old is keen to remain at his boyhood club where he’s played over 300 games, but unless they improve upon their offer he could be on the move this summer and it seems he could be heading for England.
talkSPORT claim that Arsenal are among the clubs showing a keen interest in signing the Italian international while Liverpool are also keeping tabs on his situation.
Marchisio’s father, and agent, Stefano has told the press that he’s still waiting to hear from Juventus about talks over a new deal but confirmed that he’s received plenty of interest from Premier League clubs.
“The truth is, apart from some former Juventus players, I haven’t met with anyone, I’m waiting for a call from the management.”
“I think we could meet soon, perhaps within the next seven days. Claudio has repeatedly demonstrated the will to remain at Juve, but we know that it takes two to make a marriage.
“The ball is in the Old Lady’s court, I don’t think they’d let a player like him go. If we don’t find an agreement, we’ll look around. I’ve received many calls from top clubs in the Premier League and the Bundesliga.”
Juventus have just agreed a deal to sign Sami Khedira so there’s a chance the Old Lady may be willing to cash-in on Marchisio to prevent losing him for nothing next summer.
However, much could depend on the future’s of fellow midfielders Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba as they’re also being linked with a move away and Juve can’t afford to lose more than one of their impressive midfielder’s.
We’ll have to wait and see how things develop but I think in the end Marchisio will sign a new deal with Juve and one of Vidal and Pogba will leave.
