Team News: Wenger’s Update On Sanchez, Welbeck, Flamini & Szczesny
Arsenal are back in action in North London this weekend as the Emirates Cup kicks off on Saturday.
We take on Lyon tomorrow before playing Wolfsburg the following day and Arsene Wenger has been conducting his pre-match press conference this afternoon.
The boss gave the media a team news update where he offered the latest on Mathieu Flamini, Alexis Sanchez, Danny Welbeck and Wojciech Szczesny.
Let’s start with Sanchez and as we already knew, the Chilean still hasn’t started pre-season training yet after his extended break following the Copa America so he won’t be available this weekend.
Welbeck will also miss the Emirates Cup and looks set to miss the start of the new campaign as he’s still not back in training due to an on-going knee injury that he suffered last season.
Arsene then confirmed that Flamini ‘has a knock’, which is a real coincidence considering there are strong rumours that he’s set to join Galatasary, while Szczesny ‘might not be available’ either.
The boss was pushed by the press on whether Szczesny is off to Roma and Wenger confirmed that his loan move is practically done.
“He could go on loan to Roma. We are pretty much done it is down to paper work but as long as that is not over the line anything can happen.
“Szczesny is a top class goalkeeper and we have three goalkeepers and if he can play somewhere that is good.” Wenger’s quoted as saying by the Express
Let’s hope Wojceich gets some regular game-time in Italy and comes back a better player for it next summer. He’s got the ability, he just needs to improve certain areas of his game and he’ll be a top keeper.
