Arsenal refuse to pay £50m to sign world class striker – report
The clock is ticking and it appears Arsenal could end up empty handed this deadline day as the Daily Mail are reporting that Arsene Wenger is reluctant to pay £50m to land Edinson Cavani.
Speculation has been intensifying over the past 48 hours that Cavani had been identified as our big-money striker target after we failed to land Karim Benzema from Real Madrid.
Photos emerged online showing Arsene Wenger on a plane to Paris before further images appeared to show the boss in a ‘meeting’ in a Paris hotel, with many newspapers suggesting he was discussing a deal for Cavani.
However, Daily Mail journalist Rob Draper now claims any potential deal for the Uruguayan international is all-but over as Arsene is apparently reluctant to pay £50m for the 28-year-old as he feels he’s not as good as No.1 target Benzema.
It seems that #AFC unlikely to take Cavani today. Extreme reluctance to pay £50m for 28 yr old. More on @MailSport

Not that Wenger doesn't appreciate need for striker. Really wanted Benzema, reluctant to spend that money on player he doesn't think as good

You have to admire Arsene for sticking to his guns as he simply refuses to pay over the odds for a player but at the same time, it’s extremely frustrating for us fans.
Cavani would certainly improve the team and if he’s available, even at £50m, we should be going for it. In today’s crazy market you can’t expect to get bargains anymore, especially for world class players. And even more-so on deadline day.
If you risk leaving it until the last minute, you should expect to pay a premium, and even £50m isn’t stupid money in today’s over-inflated market for a player of Cavani’s quality. If Benteke is worth £32m, then Cavani is worth £50m.
But it looks like we’re going to end up without a striker and I fear that will be the end of our ‘title challenge’ for another season. Unless things change during the next hour or so…
