Wenger’s pre-Liverpool team news: Star ruled out but duo to return
Arsene Wenger has given reporters a team news update ahead of our crucial Premier League clash at Liverpool on Wednesday night.
Unfortunately the boss once again confirmed that Alexis Sanchez isn’t going to make the trip to Anfield as he’s still not over his hamstring injury.
Alexis has been out since suffering the problem against Norwich in late November and Arsene said prior to our FA Cup win over Sunderland on Saturday that the Chilean star was unlikely to be fit in time to face Liverpool.
Many, myself included, were hoping the boss was just telling porkies to the press and was holding Alexis back for the Liverpool game but it looks as though we’ll be without our star man once again on Wednesday night.
Alexis is chomping at the bit to get back on the pitch but Arsenal are understandably not rushing him back – although he could be in the squad to face Stoke on Sunday as long as he doesn’t suffer any set-back this week.
Wenger also confirmed that Mesut Ozil and Mathieu Flamini will be back in the squad after being rested over the weekend. Ozil has been carrying a knock recently so it was important he got a breather on Saturday and hopefully he’s now raring to go against Liverpool.
The other update from the boss was to reveal that David Ospina will face a late fitness test after missing the win over Sunderland with a groin problem. Either way, the Colombian will only make the bench even if he’s passed fit.
Here is what the boss told reporters at his pre-match press conference this morning:
Wenger: “@D_Ospina1 will have tests. It is too soon for @Alexis_Sanchez , maybe he will be for Sunday.” Watch LIVE: https://t.co/fh4FyeG5tv
