Team News: Wenger Offers Update On Wilshere, Welbeck & Cazorla
It’s been another busy day of team news at Arsenal HQ so I’ll bring you around-up of the latest updates from Arsene Wenger…..
The boss has been speaking to Arsenal.com ahead of Sunday’s crucial Premier League clash with Leicester and he confirmed that we’ve suffered no fresh injury problems but Tomas Rosicky is of course out after picking up a serious thigh injury two weeks ago.
Arsene then offered an update on Jack Wilshere and revealed that the midfielder is now running freely again after stepping-up his latest injury comeback.
Jack hasn’t featured all season due to a fractured fibula that he suffered in pre-season training but the boss claims he could be back in contention for a first team return within ‘weeks’.
There was also a positive update on Santi Cazorla with Arsene confirming that the Spaniard is also closing-in on making his own comeback from a knee injury that he sustained in November.
Cazorla is following an individual training programme right now but like Wilshere, he’s now expected back in the first team set-up within the coming weeks.
The final update from Wenger was on Danny Welbeck and the boss says he’s now back to ‘full power’ in training after making his first competitive appearance of the season with a run out for the under-21’s last week having recovered from a knee injury.
Sunday’s game with Leicester is likely to come too soon for Welbeck but he should be back in the squad to face Hull in our FA Cup fifth round clash next weekend.
Here is what Wenger told Arsenal.com:
on the team news…
It is a similar squad available to last week, we are still early in the week but we should have everyone available. Of course Rosicky [is out], and Wilshere is not ready. But everyone else should be availableon Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla…
They are back running, they are on a fitness programme now so it means it is not a question of months anymore, it is a question of weeks for them to be back.on Danny Welbeck…
He is doing well, it is a bit early for him maybe but he is now back to full power in training. It is a big possibility [he could be involved against Hull next week]. We gave him one or two days recovery after the under-21 game, but now he is back in full training. He has worked very hard and he is fit.
So the squad is in very good health right now and I personally can not wait for Cazorla and Wilshere to be back in the squad as they’ve been sorely missed in recent months.
Let’s hope the boys can maintain our title charge over the coming weeks before Santi and Jack return to really help us kick on during the run-in.
