“It’s true” – Agent confirms Arsenal’s interest in Brazilian ace
The agent of Napoli midfielder Jorginho has confirmed Arsenal’s interest in signing the Brazilian ace but suggests we could face stiff competition from Real Madrid, according to the Evening Standard.
Jorginho has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates over the past year and we were reportedly showing a keen interest in signing him during the January transfer window.
The Evening Standard claim we saw an offer rejected by Napoli in the winter but Arsene Wenger has had his scouts continue to watch the 24-year-old during the second half of the season.
Jorginho’s agent, Joao Santos, has now confirmed our interest in signing the Brazilian midfielder but added that Real Madrid have also been in touch to express their admiration of the player.
Santos is quoted as saying by the Evening Standard:
“Interest from Arsenal? It’s true,”
“After the game against Palermo, compliments arrived from Real Madrid as well.
“Only compliments, nothing more. But it’s pleasing to receive expressions of respect from one of the most prestigious clubs in the world.”
We signed Mohamed Elneny in January but with Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky all set to leave when their contracts expire in June we’re going to need to sign another midfielder this summer and it appears Jorginho is on Wenger’s radar.
The Brazilian star is contracted to the Serie A club until 2020 so Napoli are under no pressure to sell and it would no doubt take a huge offer to tempt them in to cashing-in this summer.
