Arsenal Transfer News: £20m attacker bid | Agent confirms midfielder interest
It’s been another busy day of transfer gossip at Arsenal HQ so here are a couple of stories doing the rounds in the newspapers….
West Ham want Walcott
The Mirror are carrying a report claiming that West Ham are ready to test Arsenal resolve with a £20m offer for Theo Walcott this summer.
Theo has endured a difficult campaign and has fallen badly out-of-favour under Arsene Wenger in recent months with the likes of Alex Iwobi, Joel Campbell, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck all ahead of him in the pecking order.
Walcott has looked pretty uninterested when he’s come off the bench and he’s made very little impression during the second half of the season so his days at the club look numbered.
There is still going to be plenty of interest as the 27-year-old is still a very dangerous player on his day and the Mirror suggest that the Hammers are now keen to sign him ahead of their move to the Olympic Stadium this summer.
Slaven Bilic’s men will supposedly try and lure Walcott with the promise of regular first team football and he could be tempted given a move to West Ham will allow him to remain in London, where he’s settled.
I think it will be a real shame if Theo does end up leaving as when he’s confident and played in the right system, he’s a very useful player to have around. Unfortunately things just aren’t working for him at Arsenal right now and perhaps it is the right time to move on but I won’t be surprised at all if he proves a lot of people wrong wherever he goes.
Agent confirms Jorginho interest
Next up and the Express are reporting that Arsenal are interested in signing Napoli midfielder Jorginho this summer and his agent has confirmed clubs have made contact over a potential move this summer.
The 24-year-old has enjoyed an impressive season in Serie A as he’s helped Napoli secure Champions League qualification next season but it seems he’s attracting interest in his services.
The Express name Arsenal as one of the clubs keen to lure him away from Italy and the midfielders agent, Joao Santos, has now confirmed that a number of clubs have expressed their interest in signing the player.
Santos is quoted as saying by the Express:
“I don’t know what [Napoli coach Maurizio] Sarri’s intentions are,”
“It would be important to have continuity in the project though.
“Jorginho has done well, playing in a team which has done well, so we have to understand what Napoli think of his future. Unfortunately that’s modern football, you can renew and then leave two months later.
“Given the season he’s had, it’s normal that some clubs are interested in Jorginho, and I think some talk has also reached Napoli. If he were to be sold it would be to make a profit for the club.”
With Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky all leaving this summer we need to bring in at least one new central midfielder and it appears Jorginho is on Wenger’s radar.
However, there has been lots of speculation over the likes of Granit Xhaka and N’Golo Kante in recent weeks and I’d see them as far more realistic targets for the boss this summer.
