Team News: Wenger offers update on Ozil, Wilshere & The Ox
Arsene Wenger has conducted his final pre-match press conference of the season ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Aston Villa at the Emirates on Sunday.
The boss gave reporters the latest team news and was pleased confirm that Mesut Ozil is back in contention after recovering from a minor knock.
The German international missed last Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Manchester City with a slight hip problem but he’s now back in training and should line-up against Aston Villa this weekend.
Unfortunately Wenger also revealed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remains unavailable for selection after suffering another knee injury in training earlier this month. The midfielder is expected to be out for around two months meaning he’s out of this summer’s European Championships.
Jack Wilshere has recently returned to full fitness after missing practically the entire season with a fractured fibula and Wenger says the midfielder is now in contention to start against Villa.
Wilshere came on to replace Danny Welbeck last weekend and played almost 70 minutes against City but the boss hasn’t decided whether he’ll start him this weekend.
Arsene did, however, confirm that everyone at the club are devastated for Welbeck after the striker was ruled out for nine months with a knee cartilage injury which he suffered against City.
The boss on team news: "@MesutOzil1088 is back. @Alex_OxChambo won't play. Everyone else is available." https://t.co/fh4FyeG5tv
