39-goal striker backed to link-up with Mesut Ozil at Arsenal
According to the Mirror, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been backed to link-up with Mesut Ozil at Arsenal by one of his international team mates.
Aubameyang has become one of the best strikers in world football after scoring an incredible 39 goals in 49 appearances for Borussia Dortmund last season.
That impressive form has led to speculation that the Gabon international could be on the move this summer with Arsenal among a whole host of top clubs linked with a move for the player in the papers.
The rumour mill went in to overdrive when Gabon coach Jorge Costa left the 26-year-old out of a recent friendly claiming that the striker was away negotiating a transfer to a new club.
Real Madrid were widely tipped to be the club in question, however, Daniel Cousin – a fellow Gabon international – has cast doubt over any move to Spain after claiming that Aubameyang wants to move to the Premier League.
The former Rangers and Hull City striker says a move to Man Utd or Man City could be on the cards but says that Arsenal would be the ideal destination for the striker as he would form a deadly partnership with Mesut Ozil.
When quizzed about Aubameyang’s future, Cousin is quoted as saying by the Mirror:
“I think he wants to move to England,”
“The Premier League is a different style to Germany; it’s more physical and, for me, it’s a good moment for Pierre to move to a big club like Manchester United or Manchester City.
“Yes [he would be a success]. I think he can score more goals and get more experience with a big team.
“With Mourinho at Man United, and Guardiola [at City], I think this kind of coach can help Pierre-Emerick to progress.
“[If I was choosing his club it would be] Arsenal because the team play very well.
“Arsenal need another striker if they are to win the title. And I think if he played with Ozil and his assists, he would play very well.”
Aubameyang would obviously be a sensational signing for Arsenal if we could somehow pull it off and I tend to agree with Cousin that he’d form a devastating partnership with Ozil.
The Dortmund hitman has lightning pace and excellent movement so he’d make the runs that Ozil craves, while he’s also big and strong and an excellent finisher so he’s pretty much the complete package.
Mario Gotze interested in joining Arsenal
Clearly we’d face some stiff competition if Dortmund did agree to sell and he’d likely cost a record fee, but Aubameyang would be worth it. If we had him leading the line, we’d have walked the title last season.
Let’s hope Cousin has some inside information and Aubameyang does want to come to England as that would give us a decent chance of landing him. Chelsea and United aren’t in the Champions League and City already have Aguero so we’re the only big club who can give him everything he’d want.
