Arsenal boss to hold talks with agents of £65m Ligue 1 duo in France
According to the Daily Star, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is due to meet with agents of two Ligue 1 stars in France this week as he steps up his pursuit of new talent this summer.
The boss has already splashed out around £30m on the signing of Granit Xhaka and Arsene recently confirmed to the media that he’s planning to bring in a couple more players over the coming weeks.
Wenger is quoted as saying by the Daily Star:
“We’ve already bought one player – Granit Xhaka – from Monchengladbach, because we’ve lost three players.
“So we’ve bought one midfielder and we’re still in the market to buy one or two more players.”
It looks like Wenger is now stepping up his efforts to make his second signing of the summer as the Daily Star are claiming that the boss is due to hold meetings with the agents of a number of transfer targets in France this week.
A new striker is widely thought to be a priority after our proposed deal for Jamie Vardy fell through when the England international decided to stay with Leicester City and sign a new contract.
Several players have been linked in the media but the newspaper cites the Mirror as claiming that one of the players we’re after is Alexandre Lacazette with Arsene understood to be meeting his agent, David Venditelli, this week.
Lacazette scored 23 goals for Lyon last season and has been tracked by a number of clubs such as West Ham and Atletico Madrid while the Star claim he’ll cost us in the region of £45m if we decide to push ahead with a move.
A wide attacker to potentially replace Theo Walcott – who’s being tipped to leave this summer – is also understood to be on the agenda and Lille winger Sofiane Boufal has emerged as a target.
Guardian journalist Ed Aarons claimed on Twitter that Arsenal are set to hold talks with the Moroccan international’s agent this week to discuss a potential move to the Emirates but Chelsea and Southampton are also in the running.
“Arsenal, Chelsea and Southampton will hold talks with Sofiane Boufal’s agent this week over potential transfer from Lille.”
Boufal excelled for Lille last season having scored 11 goals in his 29 appearances and he has a buyout clause worth around £20m so they are in line to make a huge profit if they cash-in this summer.
So it looks as though this will be a key week as Wenger tries to thrash out deals for Lacazette and Boufal, although I’m sure they aren’t the only players the club are interested in.
