Team News: Arsenal duo ruled out but star to return against Reading
Arsene Wenger has offered a team news update ahead of Arsenal’s League Cup clash with Reading on Tuesday including the latest on Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud.
Cazorla missed Saturday’s hugely frustrating 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough after picking up an achilles injury during our 6-0 win over Ludogorets in the Champions League last week.
The boss has now confirmed that the Spaniard will once again not be involved when we welcome Reading to the Emirates tomorrow night and he’s given no suggestion as to when Santi will be available again.
Given his history of achilles problems over the past 18 months it’s a concern that he’s having trouble again but he didn’t look in too much discomfort when he was substituted last week so hopefully it isn’t serious.
Wenger also revealed that Ramsey is now back in full training after recovering from a hamstring injury that he picked up against Liverpool on the opening game of the season, but the Reading game will still come too soon for the Welsh international as he’s still not fit enough to make his first team return just yet.
However, there is some positive news as Giroud will be back in contention tomorrow night after finally overcoming a toe injury that’s kept him out of action since the draw at Paris Saint-Germain in mid-September.
It’s good to see Giroud back in action as we’ve actually missed him in recent weeks, particularly against Middlesbrough at the weekend as we could certainly have done with him as a ‘Plan B’.
This is what the boss told Arsenal.com:
on the latest team news…
Cazorla will not be available, but it looked after the game that apart from some tired legs and disappointed minds, we had nothing else to declare.on Giroud and Ramsey…
I think Olivier will be included, but for Aaron it is too early although he is back in full training now.
