Alexis Sanchez has spoken publicly for the first time about his Arsenal contract negotiations and dropped a clear hint that he wants to sign a new deal with the club.

Sanchez has just 18 months left to run on  his existing deal and has been locked in negotiations with the club over a new contract in recent months but no agreement has been reached as yet.

The Mirror claim that Sanchez has been offered £180,000-a-week but is holding out for at least £250,000-a-week amid reports he’s being offered over £400,000-a-week to move to China.

Obviously fans are concerned that the Chilean international could leave and are eager to hear what Alexis has to say about the situation but understandably the player has been keeping quiet during the talks.

However, Sanchez has now spoken out for the first time and has hinted that he’s ready to sign a new deal to stay at Arsenal after saying that he’s happy here and loves everything about the club.

But Alexis went on to say that the ball is firmly in Arsenal’s court to show ‘confidence’ in him, which basically means he wants us to offer him what he feels he’s worth in today’s market.

The 27-year-old is quoted by the Mirror as telling Sky Sports:

“To be quite honest, right now I’m more focused on winning football matches. I’m staying concentrated on that side of things. It doesn’t really depend on me so much as it does the club, if they want to show confidence in me.

“I’m very happy here, I love it here, I love all the staff, the cooks, the employees that do so much for us. I’m very grateful to everybody, and as I say I’m very happy here. So it depends on Arsenal.

“I really enjoy the relationship with the fans. They go every game and they fill up the stadium, they’re cheering and they’re passionate. I really love that. I want to win, and I want to achieve my objectives … more for them, because they’re always at the stadium, packing it out.

“So I want to win the league with Arsenal, and the Champions League, because that’s what the club is missing.”

Obviously it’s great to hear Sanchez state publicly that he’s happy at Arsenal but I think he’s also sending a pretty clear message to the club that we need to meet his demands if he’s to sign a new deal.

We all know Arsenal aren’t capable of paying anywhere near the money he’s being offered in China and it’s doubtful we could pay the £250k-a-week to both Sanchez AND Mesut Ozil.

We could perhaps afford that amount for one of the players but not both so I think we’ll stretch to about £200k-a-week and pray that will be enough to secure their futures.
