Wenger offers worrying update on Mesut Ozil
Arsene Wenger offered a concerning update on the fitness of Mesut Ozil after the German international was forced to miss last night’s thriller against Bournemouth.
Ozil sat out Sunday’s 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at the Emirates due to illness with the boss revealing that the playmaker was laid-up in bed with the flu.
The 28-year-old was once again absent for the trip to the South Coast to take on Bournemouth last night and Wenger gave reporters an update on his condition before the game.
The boss confirmed that he hasn’t seen Ozil for a week and the player is STILL bed-ridden and is also expected to miss Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Preston North End.
When asked for an update on Ozi, Wenger is quoted as saying by the Express.
“I haven’t seen him for a week so it was an easy decision [to leave him out].
“He is still in bed so he is not available.
“I don’t think he will be available for the next game because he has now done nothing for over a week.”
It must be some serious flu that Ozil has got for him to be laid-up in bed for over a week and it doesn’t sound like he’ll be recovered anytime soon as Wenger has already ruled him out of this weekend’s action.
Although saying that, even if Ozil was fit I highly doubt he’d be selected against Preston as I’m sure the boss will take the opportunity to give some of his key men a rest this weekend.
Let’s hope Mesut recovers from his flu soon and get’s himself fit for the crucial trip to Swansea on January 14th where we desperately need a win following last night’s dramatic 3-3 draw with Bournemouth.
