Arsenal boss lining-up big-money offer for Serie A hitman
According to a report in the Mirror, Arsenal are lining-up a big money offer for AC Milan striker M’Baye Niang as Arsene Wenger starts to prepare for life without Alexis Sanchez.
The Chilean international is in the final 18 months of his current contract and so far we’ve been unable to agree terms over an extension despite holding extensive talks with his representatives.
Sanchez is reportedly demanding a huge wage hike as he’s being offered crazy money to move to China and he’s cut a frustrated figure in recent weeks with the hot-tempered South American throwing a number of strops recently.
If we fail to tie him down to a long-term extension over the next few months then we may be forced to cash-in this summer and it looks as though Wenger is already eyeing potential replacements.
The Mirror are citing a report coming from Mundo Deportivo that claims Wenger is already planning in case Sanchez leaves and has identified AC Milan star M’Baye Niang as a prime target.
The 22-year-old was linked with a move to the Emirates before he moved to the San Siro in 2012 and it looks as though Wenger has maintained his interest as the newspaper says the boss is now lining-up a big money move for the striker.
Niang is predominantly played out on the wing but he’s also capable of playing through the middle so he does play in the same positions as Sanchez. Unfortunately, he doesn’t come close to matching his ability.
The pacey forward has plenty of potential but he’s enjoyed mixed success in Italy having scored just 12 goals in 76 appearances and he’s miles behind Sanchez in terms of his development, so it would be a massive backwards step if this is the man we replace him with [if he leaves].
Obviously we all pray that Alexis signs a new deal and stays at Arsenal but if the worst happens and we have to sell this summer, then let’s hope the club have more ambitious targets in mind such as Marco Reus or Antoine Griezmann rather than someone like Niang.
