Arsenal eyeing £34.5m deal for Portuguese international
According to the Sun, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is considering pushing ahead with a £34.5m deal to sign Porto midfielder Danilo Pereira after stepping up his interest this weekend.
The newspaper says that Wenger had his scouts once again watch the 25-year-old in action on Saturday and they’d have been impressed with what they saw as Pereira scored during Porto’s 4-2 win over Rio Ave.
It’s understood that the Portuguese international has a buyout clause set at £34.5m and Porto are under no pressure to sell for anything less as he’s contracted to the club until 2020.
The Sun are citing a report from Portuguese outlet A Bola that claims Arsenal are now considering meeting that clause ahead of a potential summer move to north London.
Central midfield has become a troublesome area for us as Wenger is struggling to field a regular partnership in the middle of the park with Santi Cazorla out with a long-term Achilles injury, Aaron Ramsey failing to hit top form and Granit Xhaka’s disciplinary issues blighting his first season at the club.
If these reports are accurate, then it looks as though the boss is looking to continue his midfield overhaul this summer and Pereira would be an exciting addition to the squad if we do end up snapping him up.
He’s developed in to one of the best defensive midfielders in Portuguese football since joining Porto from Maritimo in 2015 and helped the club push Benfica for the title last season.
Pereira is now a regular in the Portuguese national squad with 16 caps to his name so far having previously represented his country at every youth level and he played his part during their Euro 2016 triumph last summer.
