Arsenal defender ruled out for up to a month with foot injury
Arsenal defender Calum Chambers has been ruled out for up to a month after suffering a fractured foot while on-loan at Middlesbrough.
Chambers joined Arsenal from Southampton in 2014 but struggled to hold down a regular first team place having featured in just 12 Premier League games last season.
The 22-year-old was eventually sent out on loan to Boro last summer and he’s already started 16 times for Aitor Karanka’s side this campaign, earning rave reviews in the process.
However, unfortunately Calum’s progress has now been halted by an untimely injury as Karanka confirmed this afternoon that the Gunners star has suffered a stress fracture to his foot.
The Middlesbrough boss doesn’t know exactly how long Chambers will be out for but it could be at long as a month.
Speaking at his press conference ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup tie with Accrington, Karanka is quoted as saying by Sky Sports:
“Calum has a stress fracture in his foot. I don’t know how long he will be out for or if it will be one, two, three or four weeks. At the minute he’s trying to get fit as soon as possible.”
If Chambers misses the full month then he’ll be forced to sit out Boro’s games against West Brom, Tottenham and Everton over the coming weeks as well as this weekend’s FA Cup clash.
Hopefully the young defender makes a swift recovery as he was just starting to show what he’s capable of at the Riverside Stadium and he needs a good season on loan to try and force his way in to the Arsenal set-up next year.
